Recently, Wintech Digital Systems (Wintech) announced that it will launch a new generation video telephony development platform (VDP II) based on Texas Instruments' DaVinci(TM) technology. With the completion of the transition to TI's DaVinci technology, the new Wintech VDP II will help OEMs introduce a variety of differentiated designs from codecs to user interfaces, saving significant development resources and speeding time-to-market.

Using TI's TMS320DM6446-600 MHz digital media processor, the VDP II not only helps OEMs and ODMs accelerate time-to-market, but also supports a reliable operating system, rich user interface, high-performance real-time processing and longer battery life. The new Wintech VDP II is an integrated turnkey video communication system solution that includes the hardware and software needed to develop IP video conferencing clients, desktop video telephony, IPTV solutions, and other IP video systems. It also helps OEMs develop more value-added applications using a standard Linux operating system (OS) and a customized graphical user interface (GUI). With DaVinci technology, the overall system bill of materials for the new solution is significantly lower than the previous generation VDP based on TI's TMS320DM64x(TM) digital media processor.

TI's Director of Market Development for DSP/MCU Products, Ding Yulin, pointed out: "TI believes that the video telephony market has great potential in the next few years. Da Vinci's digital media technology is critical to the success of future IP desktop video telephony. TI is very happy Seeing the launch of the first VDP based on DaVinci digital media technology in the Chinese market, we will continue to work with Wintech to improve the quality and performance of video communications to maximize the end user experience."

Dong Yonghong, president of Wenting Digital Systems, said: "We are very excited about the successful upgrade of DaVinci digital media technology in VDP development. We believe that with TI's DaVinci technology, the new VDP II can not only Helping customers get the latest high-performance digital video innovations, saving design investment as much as possible, and accelerating time-to-market and increasing competitiveness."

The Wintech VDP II is available now for $6,950 and includes two hardware boards based on the DaVinci TMS320DM6446-600 MHz, two 5-inch LCDs, two cameras, network switches/hubs, and point-to-point video. Ready-to-use application software for phone presentations.
