Japan's NHK develops white LED lamps to reduce glare and glare

The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) announced on April 25, 2014 that it has jointly developed a white LED lighting fixture using Cl_MS fluorescent material (a fluorescent material that absorbs purple light and emits yellow light).

The new product reduces glare and glare compared to white LED lighting fixtures used in previous TV production production sites. The new product uses spectral characteristics (intensity distribution per wavelength of light) to be more stable than the original white LED, and can be used with Cl_MS fluorescent material designed with large illumination area, thus reducing the glare problem.

NHK and Otaru made trials of "CasterLight", which illuminates the announcer in the studio, and "SoftLight", which was used for location shooting and retransmission, and compared it with traditional white LED lighting. About 90% of the testers replied that "there is no glare and glare in the trial products."

NHK recently used this white LED lighting fixture. NHK will further test the product on the show and optimize it for program production purposes.
