A pickup is an accessory used to collect sound from the scene, an electroacoustic instrument that amplifies sound by receiving sound vibrations. In the early stage, PeakFire pickups used the high-gain, internal frequency-compensated dual operational amplifier NE5532 to achieve signal amplification and noise reduction. In such pickups, since only a simple RLC frequency selective network is used, noise removal is unclean. High-performance pickup with built-in digital noise reduction and floating-point phase processing chip to minimize noise and restore human voice, suitable for high performance environments. Pickups often encounter some faults during use. The following is a brief introduction to several common faults and corresponding solutions for your reference.
The most common problem encountered with pickups in use is silence. Can be determined by the exclusion method:
1. Use a multimeter to measure the DC power supply voltage at the pickup end. The voltage between 9V and 12V is normal;
2. If you have more than one pickup, you can compare them by cross-wiring to determine if the pickup or cable or other accessory equipment is faulty;
3. If the audio cable is connected to other audio devices, disconnect it and connect directly to the desktop sound card line in interface to test with the recorder software provided by the operating system. If the sound is normal, the pickup itself is not a problem, check the connected audio device or other aspects;
4. Check that the wiring is intact and secure;
5. Check whether the interface of the amplifying device is matched with the pickup, and whether the volume of the amplifying device is adjusted properly;
6. It is strictly forbidden to connect the pickup to the microphone (MIC) input of the sound card, mixer, amplifier, etc., otherwise the device may be damaged. This is because although the inside of the pickup also includes a microphone, it also includes circuits for amplification, noise reduction, and echo processing, and the output is a "Line Out" audio signal of 2Vpp to 5Vpp.
The pickup has a lot of noise or low quality. Can be checked from the following aspects:
1. This pickup can't be powered by switching power supply. Please use high quality 12V ordinary DC regulated power supply, or AP-200 voice optimized power supply, special power supply for pickup.
2. If the audio cable is connected to other audio devices, please disconnect and connect directly to the desktop sound card line in interface to test with the recorder software provided by the operating system. If the sound is normal, the pickup itself is not a problem, check the connected audio device or other aspects;
3. Check if the noise is caused by self-excitation: the speakers for monitoring must not be too close to the pickup, try not to test in the same room. Due to the high sensitivity of the pickup, the sound of the speaker is fed back to the microphone of the pickup, which inevitably causes the sound to whistle. The same room needs to be monitored and headphones can be used.
4. It is best to use separate wiring when wiring. Do not use the same cable slot with strong current such as AC, and try to stay away from strong electromagnetic interference equipment such as transformers and lamp rectifiers. The 2X0.5 RVVP/3X0.5 RVVP shielded cable can also effectively avoid external interference, which requires the shield to be grounded at one end.
6. Some video monitors come with a speaker, but they may not work well. You can use high-quality headphones or powered speakers for monitoring.
7. The integrated sound card on some computer motherboards is of poor quality, causing serious noise when recording. It is necessary to use a high-quality independent sound card of brands such as Chuangtong.
8. The output impedance of the pickup is 600 ohms, and the audio input impedance of the rear capture card needs to be between 600-1000 ohms (including the threshold);
9. Check that the volume of the pickup sound gain potentiometer or the amplifying device is adjusted properly.
In addition, when the power cord is damaged, the liquid or other items enter the inside of the pickup, the pickup is exposed to rain or moisture, the work is not normal, or it falls from a high place, do not repair it yourself, and it should be given to professional maintenance personnel.
Usually, the pickup will have some heat during work, so it is recommended to use it in a dry and ventilated place, keeping it at least 10 cm away from other equipment. In addition, when the pickup is used with a power amplifier and a headphone or a speaker, high sound pressure that may damage the hearing may occur, so do not use it for a long time under high sound pressure or harsh conditions. If you feel that hearing loss or tinnitus, you need to do an auditory correction. When not in use for a long time, pack the pickups, keep them dry, and pay attention to moisture.
