The MAX4455 is an 8-channel arbitrary graphics OSD video generator that can embed any grayscale bitmap into 8 asynchronous composite video signal sources. The MAX4455 can be ideally applied to the monitoring system of security cameras and is used to embed images and text into 8 video output channels with 15 levels of brightness. It can easily display various information in any font and size, such as company logo, camera location, time and date. The ability to display arbitrary images allows it to display a variety of text and fonts, allowing manufacturers to make their systems for any geographic market. The MAX4455 is designed to be used with Maxim ’s video matrix switches, such as the MAX4356 and MAX4358. These devices include circuits that can simply insert OSD information. The MAX4455 can also be used with discrete fast multiplexers.
The MAX4455 operates from a 3V to 3.6V digital power supply and a 2.7V to 5.5V analog power supply. The independent power supply interface makes the MAX4455 very logically connected to the microprocessor and the OSD matrix switch, allowing any logic level from 2.7V to 5.5V. The MAX4455 uses 16Mb SDRAM to store the image information of all 8 video channels. The MAX4455 can manage all memory interface functions through a simple main µP interface. The MAX4455's multi-channel memory sharing function and multi-location writing function realize the rapid refresh of shared image information, which is very necessary for quickly updating OSD information (such as time stamps).
