Elmos introduces a programmable LED driver for a smart welcome interface

Germany's Elmos has announced the driver chip E522.46 specifically designed for automotive interior LED lighting. The chip features an 8-track high-side driver, and the individual LED classification information and other configuration parameters can be stored in the on-chip EEPROM. Based on these stored LED classification information, the LED operating current of each channel can be set by the input PWM duty cycle to achieve different brightness. In addition, the chip also provides an analog dimming input interface that dims the LEDs with an analog voltage. The E522.46 is designed with an I2C interface that can be connected to a host microcontroller to implement a variety of user-defined animations and friendly interfaces.

The chip's range of applications includes: interior ambience lights in vehicles, infotainment button backlighting, and taillights and turn signals. The chip operates from an input voltage range of 3.3V to 32V (42V maximum) and a maximum output current of 26.5mA. Each LED output current resolution is 8 bits, the range is 1mA to 26.5mA, and the working current temperature of the chip current measurement and management system is as high as TJ=+165°C.

The device also has the following diagnostic functions: input voltage overvoltage / undervoltage monitoring, readable on-chip temperature and LED voltage for open/short fault detection. The device is AEC-Q100 qualified and is available in DFN18L5040 package.
